THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE in Offaly have been issued a boil water notice after an E-coli detection.
Almost 10,000 customers in Birr, Dunkerrik and Banagher have been affected.
Head of Irish Water operations for the East and Midlands Conor Foley told Morning Ireland on RTÉ Radio 1 that some sampling was done yesterday and management is awaiting the results today.
When asked what is causing the issue, he said:
We’re not 100% certain of that at the moment, we’re doing a full investigation. We’re doing complete audits of the three plants today .
“Our initial investigations yesterday would indicate that we haven’t had any operational issues or breakdown issues of our processes.”
Foley added, “We’ve got leaflets out to all of our customers at this stage. We’ve had 20 staff out since yesterday.”
