A SEARCH HAS now concluded in west Kerry after the body of a missing hillwalker was found, a day after failing to return to his car.

The man, who is believed to be in his 60s and from the UK, had been climbing Mount Brandon, on the Dingle Peninsula.

He parked his car at Mullenaglemig, Dingle around 11am yesterday morning and headed out for the walk alone.

Kerry Mountain Rescue said the man was in contact with his wife throughout the day until 3pm. She has received no contact from him from that point onwards.

Members of the Kerry Mountain Rescue and the Dingle Coastguard began a search operation yesterday evening but ended the search for the night due to heavy fog.

The teams began the search again early this morning. His body was found shortly after 3pm this afternoon.

The R115 rescue helicopter from Shannon also joined the search today.
