Shortly before 7am, a man entered a petrol station in the Fermoy area and threatened staff with a knife. He left the filling station with money and made his getaway in a black car.

The second incident happened in the Watergrasshill area. The man entered a shop, demanded cash with a knife and again left in a black car. A third robbery occurred at a shop in Glanmire shortly after.

A garda spokesman said: “During a follow-up operation, a car matching the description provided was followed and intercepted by gardaí in the Douglas area.

“Two men aged in their 30s and 50s were arrested at the scene. The two men are currently detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at the Bridewell garda station.”

Gardaí said nobody was physically harmed during the incidents.
