MS Paint isn’t being scrapped – but you will have to download it

Erik G

MICROSOFT HAS ANNOUNCED that MS Paint, the tool used to launch billions of crudely drawn pictures, will not be scrapped.

The computing giant had announced plans to replace the program with Paint 3D, a more sophisticated version of the software, but now says that the original Paint will be available on the Microsoft app store for free.

Paint has been part of the Windows operating system since Windows 1.0 was released in 1985.

It was known for its easy-to-use interface and it became one of the core features of Windows over the past three decades.

In a blog post today, the company says it is here to stay.

“If there’s anything we learned, it’s that after 32 years, MS Paint has a lot of fans. It’s been amazing to see so much love for our trusty old app. Amidst today’s commentary around MS Paint we wanted to take this opportunity to set the record straight, clear up some confusion and share some good news:

“MS Paint is here to stay, it will just have a new home soon, in the Windows Store where it will be available for free.”

The Windows 10 Creators Update released in April introduced the new Paint 3D.
